Real Madrid is planning a summer reshuffle as Xabi Alonso prepares to take charge, with Joan Garcia targeted to replace Andriy Lunin as Courtois’ backup.

Real Madrid is preparing for a summer of transformation, with legendary midfielder Xabi Alonso widely tipped to replace Carlo Ancelotti as head coach. But the changes aren’t expected to stop at the managerial level — the squad is also in for a shake-up, particularly in the goalkeeping department.

Thibaut Courtois remains the undisputed first-choice shot-stopper at the Santiago Bernabéu, but his current understudy, Andriy Lunin, could finally be set for a move away. Having long been linked with an exit, the Ukrainian goalkeeper now faces strong speculation that his time in Madrid is coming to an end.

According to reports from Marca, Joan Garcia of Espanyol has emerged as Real Madrid’s top goalkeeping target. The 23-year-old has enjoyed a breakout campaign in La Liga, attracting attention from multiple European clubs thanks to his consistent and commanding performances between the sticks.

Espanyol are reportedly resigned to losing Garcia, with a €25 million release clause that several clubs — including Real Madrid — could activate. Garcia is said to be enthusiastic about the prospect of joining Los Blancos, even if it means initially playing second fiddle to Courtois.

The club hierarchy at Madrid is said to be impressed by the young Spaniard's mentality and talent. Despite knowing he may not walk straight into the starting eleven, Garcia is prepared to challenge Courtois for the No.1 shirt under the incoming manager.

Meanwhile, Aston Villa is also monitoring Garcia's situation. Manager Unai Emery and sporting director Monchi are reportedly interested in bringing him to Villa Park as a potential replacement for Emiliano Martinez, who is on the radar of Saudi Arabian clubs.

If the deal goes through, Garcia could become a long-term project for Madrid — a potential heir to Courtois while offering elite backup in the short term.

With change on the horizon, the Bernabéu faithful can expect a thrilling transfer window ahead.
