Bournemouth striker Evanilson will not serve a three-match suspension after the club's successful appeal against his red card received during Sunday’s 1-1 Premier League draw with Manchester United.
The 25-year-old Brazilian forward was initially shown a yellow card in the 70th minute for a challenge on United’s Noussair Mazraoui, but a VAR review upgraded the decision to a red card, leading to immediate dismissal. The decision sparked criticism, with many deeming the contact unintentional and not worthy of a sending off.
The Football Association (FA) announced on Wednesday that an independent regulatory commission had accepted Bournemouth's claim of wrongful dismissal, officially overturning the suspension.
“An independent regulatory commission has removed Evanilson's three-match ban following a successful claim of wrongful dismissal,” the FA said in a statement.
This decision is a huge relief for Bournemouth, who are currently 10th in the Premier League and facing a tough schedule ahead. Evanilson was originally set to miss key matches against Arsenal, Aston Villa, and Manchester City, but he will now be available for selection.
Evanilson has had a solid campaign, scoring 11 goals in 31 matches across all competitions, and remains an important figure for the Cherries as they look to finish the season strongly.
Bournemouth travel to Arsenal on Saturday, hoping to continue their impressive mid-table form.
